Have you ever watched one of your fish slowly waste away and there was nothing you could do about it? That's happening to our lawnmower blenny, who is our system's oldest fish. He is one of only two fish, along with a clown, who has been there through all three tanks over the past 4 or 5 years. He's always been extremely active, constantly eating, and very outgoing. His belly has been full sized his whole life. Last week I looked in the tank and he's suddenly skin and bones, like his stomach ...
I haven't updated my pics in a while, but I've been fighting with the tank a lot. I have had some issues with frags not growing, and even a complete lack of polyp extension in SPS with browning out too. On top of that I got a GHA outbreak. I thought I'd been doing ok, but it really forced me to take a long, hard look at the way I kept my tank. I had cheaped out on my test equipment, so I decided it was time for an upgrade. I replaced my years old swing arm hydrometer with a refractometer, and ...
I put together my new system last summer having purchased the new display tank from an old high school classmate via Facebook. He said it was 90 gallons, and I never had any reason to question it. I knew the dimensions, as I built the stand and canopy myself. I've always calculated everything out and listed it as a 90 gallon because I am not familiar with larger tank dimensions. A few days ago I was listening to a podcast and they said a 90 gallon was something different than what I had, so today ...
Well, it's finally done (at least everything beside the sump). I now have the aquascaping done in my new 90, got the corals put on pegs and placed in the DT along with my limited cleaning crew. Finally, I re-trapped the fish and moved them back over. My lawnmower blenny still needs to make the move, but everyone else is over. Here's the aquascaping before I added anything living. For now, my ph probe ...
After a couple weeks with the 50 gallon frag tank sitting next to my old 55, I decided that it was finally time to get moving. I borrowed a DIY fish trap from a local reefer and took a few days getting everyone over there. I also had to get some coral off of large rocks that I couldn't fit in the 50, so I got out the rotozip's dry diamond wheel and made some frags. I used the "pegging" method that Marc showed me and I'm loving it so far. ...
