Hey! I love the metric system. The only thing I like about our system is the inch. It's something I have down in estimations... CM and MM not so much, but it is far better way to measure.

:-) seems like pitfalls of the inch/feet/gallon/oz system to me. You'd never have any doubts about your tank size in metric system as everything is a multiple of 10. It is so easy to find out liters from cm (just multiply the three dimensions and divide by 1000 because 1000cm3 = 1L) that you know almost instantly a tank size. Without discounting the sand and rock volumes, of course:-) .

    nice find!

To calculate the exact gallonage of a tank multiply the legnth*width*height divided by 231.

I'm running 2 Koralia 400 gph power heads in my 50 gal, plus 250 gph return. The flow doesn't look like much, but my corals are thriving. Since I'm starting to add SPS's I am planning to upgrade after Christmas. Play around with the location and aiming, that can make a big difference with the Koralia's. And for softies and LPS you've probably got plenty.

hey mits, Just a heads up, big al's online has koralia evolution pumps at 50% off, you can grab a 1450 for like 30 bucks right now

yea, the 1200 with the white impeller is like 2100gph of flow.... twice what your koralia's are if I'm correct

I actually had the modded maxijet on there, but I was using it on an old 1200 that died on me recently. I may grab a new one soon.

The flow you have now sounds roughly like what I had in my 29g, Mits. You can definitely add more powerheads if you don't mind looking at them.

I hate to say it, because it really kinda sounds like a cheapass way of doing it, but I got that algae free upgrade kit on a maxi-jet 900 and it's beast. Right now the new tank is just cycling, so it's got the return pump from the sump with a locline and a single maxijet 900 with the 1600gph blade in it. Whole setup would only run ya like 40 bucks or so shipped from marine depot, though it is quite bulkier and a bit of an eyesore compared to the nicer pumps

Glad it helped. I'm planning to do some pegging for the new tank myself.

    Looking good

I like the openness of it. Most tanks end up looking too dense in my opinion. Also like the black sand, I used that in a 20 gal nano a few years back and loved the contrast it brings.

Looks awesome Mits, cool design! Man you can really see the difference in the 10k and the 14k lights. I like the full system shot, nice. Sorry to hear about ya skimmer. That's cool the two corals are next to each other and not stinging one another. ;-)

I forgot to mention that my diatom bloom is in full swing, along with a high ph. My RKL says it's swinging between 8.3 and 8.5 or higher. I have a couple ideas for reducing it, but of course my skimmer pump died last night so I now have to deal with that too.

Thank ya Mits, I think my hermits tend to knock over my frags with just glue to the rock. That seems more secure.

He didn't have an article on it, he just linked me to one that he knew of. I use 3/16" rigid airline tubing with a 3/16" masonry bit. A little superglue puts it on the plug nice and securely. The good part is that it can be popped or cut off if the person you trade with doesn't need it.
