thanks for the advice, I will look into doing something, I hate to lose either one of them and would love for the issue to resolve itself, I will look into doing some kind of guaranteeing and re-releasing it is worth a shot, I am also consider adding a few chromis to the tank while they are out hopefully it will make them feel as though there isn't enough room to just reclaim everything. I have an old 12 gallon nano tank that I could probably place the clowns in for a couple weeks to let them kind of forget their territory if that is ok, I don't want to stress them out too much during that period

Just what I've heard, but hear is my opinion on the clowns.... as far as I have understood it (not practical experiance, with a dominant/ teritorial species like that, if they are introduced last in the tank, then they don't have as much of an influence. I.don't know if maybe you have another tank you could aclimate them too for a little bit, then re introduce them to yours or not, but that might work. Another suggestion would be just a hang on, quarantine style box you could put them in for a bit in your display, then, after a bit, release them. I know both involve catchin them, so maybe not the best ideas, but just a thought. Hope it helps. Oh, and if it helps too, my girlfriends clown did just fine in a quarantine box in my tank for about 2 weeks before I released him back into her tank. That's also with me having a pink skunk clown in mine and neither seemed to pay much atention to 1 another. Of course, hers is a bit of a daddys boy and nibbles at my fingers anytime they are near the water. Again, hope this helps or at least gets the wheels moving in the right direction.

I would think as long as the BTA has a clean base and the tentacles can do the fighting... it should easily win out. Good luck! :-)

here is a new question along the same lines, I am considering removing a lot of my zoas that my clowns sleep in and moving my anemone's rock to that side of the tank (hoping that will eliminate some of the aggression) and before I do anything with my zoas i am curious as too what will win the fight the zoas or the BTA? if the bta will kill them off I won't wory about removing zoas, ut if they will/can damage it's stalk or foot I will remove the fast growing ones and leave the slow growers and move the BTA to where they used to be

they were the first thing added but the tank has been rearranged several time over the last year, and the last time anything new was added was about 6 months ago, the female clown has been with the yellowtail for over a year, so at this point I am not looking at rearranging since it was just done about 3 months ago

So were the clowns the first thing that you had in your tank? If so then maybe try moving your rockwork around and confusing the little buggers. I know that the thought of moving your rockwork around is not always an enjoyable task especially if you like it the way it is currently set up. If you are like me, I am always staring at my tank contemplating how to make it more aesthetically pleasing but never want to move anything, then now is your chance. That may make them settle down a bit.

thanks for all the sharing all of your experiences with me guys, I love my clowns and my female was the second fish I ever got but I swear I almost want to find it a new home with it doing this. For all it's worth though if they are happy and are not harming anything but me I can't complain too much....given that it is in a captive environment I can't say I would be very cooperative in its position . Probably wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so smart and brave at the same time! oh and melev I can say I have attempted to thump it on the nose to avail...also tried a little more but i digress....

Had the same problem with a pair of false percs. I just laughed about it, the way I see it, Im putting my hand where it doesnt belong so they can come at me if they want.

My tomato clowns pay no attention to me, so long as I leave their fuzzy green mushrooms alone.

My Maroon pair is of course a pain, but I embrace their vigor.

I have a story to share about my Ocellaris pair. I cut my finger while washing the dishes one day and had to get stitches. A week or two later I forgot they were there as it was mostly healed, however, I dipped my hands in to move some rocks around and scrape some algae and my clowfish ravenously bit my stitches and was yanking on them. I have never seen anything like it, 10x worse than a feeding frenzy. I put my other hand in the tank and it was ignored, put the stitched hand above the water and the clownfish saw it through the waterline and followed it around the inside perimeter. Crazy stuff, cant begin to describe it.

I had a pair that would draw blood. I'd stick my hand in tha tank to recue a frag. 20 seconds total. I'd come out with 30+ clownfish mouth marks, each one bloody. They learned to grab & twist. Ouch. Granted, the pair did spawn towards the end of when I had them. I was ready to re-home them by the time it happened.

I don't like clowns for this very reason. Mine always tried to tear me up too. And I know of at least 3 others with the same stories. I hit mine on a regular basis and it never stopped...or pressed charges for animal abuse. I'm just sayin...thump away.

I know one person told me they thumped their clown on the nose and it never did it again. It's a tough one to accomplish.

thanks hat I wish I had about a 250 gallon I would be in love, the biggest thing about this hobby is you are limited by size (and money) but i really am happy with having a 75 gallon. I run reef keeper elite controller and absolutely love it, everything runs like clockwork now and it also helps for those out of town trips. I have been dosing daily for ph as well as removing the lip on the tank completely (it was never tightly closed anyway) to try to help get more oxygen transfer going to try and help stabilize it better. let me know how everything goes for you

Your tank is very nice looking. I love the stain of the stand and canopy. Mine is a white but I wish it were like yours; would match the rest of my furniture. I'm trying to stabilize my water quality too. Going to break-down and purchase whatever it takes soon. My perimeters are awesome now but I dose regularly and actually keep up with it everyday. I want to look into bio-pellets, new sump, new protein skimmer and a controller. Did I mention I have a 75 gallon too.

thanks, yeah it's a 75 gallon, I still have a lot to do right now I have moved my focus from the cyano (which is completely gone now btw) to stabilizing my ph, I have a magnesium test kit on the way and am looking at some alkalinity tests, once I get all that under wraps I will switch over to looks and maintaining that quality. I also REALLY want to add a toadstool leather but I have enough green in my tank and would prefer to add a white cap toadstool but none of my lfs have even heard of one not having green polyps so it is either a 2 hour drive to find one near atlanta or knoxville or order one online

You've probably said this a hundred times, but what size is your tank? It seems like a 75 gallon, but it looks bigger in the pictures. Also, I like how the tank is shaping up. Scrape the coralline algae off of the front and it would be stellar! Glad to see the changes are making your handle a more distant memory.
