  1. Repairing Leaking Sump

I mixed up around 180G of sea water and started to fill my tank and sump. Once I had the whole system filled and running I noticed that there was water next to my sump. The next morning a noticed a little more water and I started to worry. Luckily when I had my tank built I had them put an acrylic liner along the entire length of the tank. That way if there is a leak in the system it will save the floor. The liner has a 5 inch edge around it creating a bowl. This has saved my many times over ...

  2. Video - Overflow Tests

So I hooked up my dual Durso standpipes and I didn't like the results at all. So I looked around for ideas on making the overflow quiet and I came across the "Bean Animal" Silent and Safe Overflow method on Reef Central. I was actually very happy with the results and I created the following video with the test results.

  4. 150 Reef Re-build Project - The Teardown

I have a 150 Gallon Reef tank with what I think is old tank syndrome. This tank has been up and running for 10 years with the same sand bed with a plenum. Now I learned at MACNA that there is no such thing as old tank syndrome but instead it is old lazy aquarist syndrome. (according to Joe Yaiullo) Either way I had to do something and a tear-down was what I decided.I was curious to find out what things looked like under the plenum.

So I took a few days of work so that I could get ...

  5. Trouble with Snails - Could these Hitchhikers be the problem?

I posted before that I've been having trouble with many of my snails dying. Not sure of the cause I've tried many things and received many suggestions.

I took out about 70% of my live rock and have been cooking it for several months. I wanted to see if there was something on the live rock that was killing the snails. I'm happy to report that after a number of weeks in the cooking barrel all the snails are fine. So wanting to do a little control test I took one turbo snail and ...
