ok didn't have the good camera so I took some video of the tank for the update. This is about the 2 month mark. (Crappy phone vidoe)
I bought them from a local club member, they are 120W panels and the color combination is 119 - 1w leds divided up into 35 - 16000K, 28 - 14000K, 28 453nm blue and 28, 468nm blue.
Looks great! What kind of LED fixtures are they?
Ok I decided to replace the T5's on this build with leds. I am now running (3) 120W led panels over this tank. I had to modify the canopy to hold the leds Bracket to hold led rack Leds in place ( I will paint the rack and brackets for corossion prevention) Led full tank shot (cell phone pic)
Looks awesome, great job on the whole build!! I like ya rockscape too.
Ok here are some pics of the tank as of right now. I have added a few more pieces of rock but the aquascape is still pretty simple.
Ok so its been awhile since I have updated this so here goes. The tank is in the house and running. I still have to do a few things but they can all be done while it is running. Once the water clears up will add more sand if needed and rearrange the rocks. For some reason the stand looks blotchy in the pics but its not in person. Ok so we spent a few hours last night trying to figure out the aquascaping and this is what we ended up with. The cycle is over and should start putting in the livestock tonight. What you think. As of right now this is the fish stock list: Male/Female African Leopard Wrasse pair Female Flame Wrasse Male Exquisite Wrasse Male Pink Margin Wrasse Yellow coris wrasse Male/Female Ocellaris/Percula clown pair Black Sailfin Blenny Starry Blenny Flame Hawk
On to the canopy, the lights, fans and lid hinges have been installed. So right now I only have to finish up the magnets on the doors, and update my RKL and It will be ready to move in the house.
ok its been awhile since I updated this thread, I have been on travel several time but have made some very good progress on the build. Here is the stand base with the stain applied with no clear coat over it yet.Got the stain applied to everything, it all still need the polyurethane applied.Well got the polyurethane applied and decided it was time to start the leak testing.Well after it was filled and running I started getting a flushing effect in my overflow so I had to rework my drain plumbing. I removed the hard pvc and went with a union and flex pvc.
This weekend was very productive on the tank build. Here are some more pictures. Now its time for the sanding and staining. This is how much room I will have to work under the tank and in canopy because all the will come completely off. And now some shots of the whole thing
Even though I did not spend a lot of time not working on my stand today I got a lot done. Here are some updated pics of the stand and canopy with the doors added and the canopy lid. I still need to add some trim to the canopy lid and to the stand. If all goes as planned I should be ready to put some stain on it by the first of the week. Front view side view
ok all the door frames are finished will install the birch plywood inserts tomorrow and hopefully finish up the trim.
So its back to work on the tank. I decided to make some changes to my canopy design. I initially was going to install the ballast on the inside back wall of canopy, but to reduce the amount of heat in the canopy I decided to install them outside the canopy in the back. So I created a box where the ballast will be installed and it will still allow me to place the tank against the wall.
yes the top is going to open so i can do any maintance on the lights. All of the openings you see on the canopy and stand are going to have doors that actually open, actually they will be attached with magnets. As far as welding goes I do not know how and just found someone to do it for me.
Is the top panel going to lift up so you change out the lights when needed? Or is the top going to be open with egg crate? What type of lights are you going to use BTW? I'm only asking cause I had someone build my canopy and it's a PIA to change out the lights or even open the front door to clean the tank. I love your stand. I wish I know how to weld.
Ok I did not get as much accomplished as I wanted to but that is ok, will work on it some more when I get back. The canopy is coming along nicely.
will have another update later today
Here are the first set of baffles installed in the sump
ok got home to late yesterday to actually do any wood working, so I thought that I would work on the baffles for my sump. So here are the first set of baffles (skimmer side), these will just inset into the tank with some silicone between them and the glass.
I totally agree I hate have to bend down to look at the tank
