Yeah, I agree. I had one for quite some time and he would molt like crazy. Round about every 4 to 6 weeks. Definately way more than the pistol, fire shrimp, or cleaners we've had/ have.

jimmy is right, any time you dose iodine it helps with the shedding, if you dose too much it forces a shedding, everything stays more natural with just water changes, but of course every tank is different and may require more frequent changes or an actual iodine supplement.

i believe any addition of iodine speeds up the process. be it a water change or additive. for sure a water change, just remember reading something a while ago about iodine. not suggesting to add any as there are lots of cons to iodine. oh and hello to all, thought i would check out your site.

Mine's molted about every 4 to 6 weeks or so, It's written down on the Fish tank calendar.

Mine appears to molt every 5 to 6 weeks. I imagine they slow down molting when they're finished growing... not sure if mine is finished growing or not... but that's my experience. It's not a bad thing for sure. I like setting mine up somewhere random in the house to scare my wife... always fun seeing a big 3" shrimp with big pinchers out sitting on the sink. haha

Yep, I bought out all the tubes at my LFS of the Black. It does go well with the tank. Thanks. A work in progress it is.

Thanks Marc, It's actually 3 inches taller than a store bought 120 high tank stand. And the post-its are yellow tape with the names of the devices and outlet no's for the American DJ Power Sw.

I just completed the Stand move, while I didnt have the requisite 4 persons, I did have my son. I actually had some glass Suction Cups from Northern Tool that I use to secure my Hangglider to the front of my truck's hood and emptying the tank to a bare minimum of sand and water and pulling out 1/2 the base rock and all of the LR along with my creatures of the deep, into 2 Quarantine tanks, it appears successful. The Swap completed and all the water and rock back into the DT. I'll move the creatures of the deep in 12 to 14 hours, once the temp in the DT Stabilizes a bit more. Will post up some pix tomorrow of the new Stand, Sump and DT.

The tank is a 120 high, 60.5 x 18.5. The sump is a 40 gallon breeder at 36 x 18 x 16 high. It is a diy from plans Marc has on his site. Water enters on both the left and right sides, the left is adjacent to the protein skimmer, a remora pro and the right side is where the fuge is. I teed off the main return to feed the fuge with a ball valve for adjustment purposes.

Hi Aaron. Sorry to hear about the leaking sump - that's never fun. I like stands that are bigger than the display tank because if you center it on top, you have a shelf wrapped around the tank to put things down, like a test kit, some fish food, or your favorite beverage.

By installing a bigger stand, you have room for a larger sump. And later if you decide to upgrade aquariums, if you built the stand to the right predetermined size, all you do is swap out the display tanks and do some plumbing, and you'll be back to business in no time. For example, a 55g is usually 48" long. With a 60" stand, you've not only created a 6" shelf at each end, but you've got space for a big sump even with the lumber that makes up the stand itself. If the stand is 20" to 24" front to back, a 55g fits now, and a 90g to 120g later.
