  1. I've been impulsive and bad lately.

For some reason, I can't seem to get enough fish for my tank, but I'm putting my foot down and stopping the madness.

Two weeks ago, I added the 30 Chromis plus the two little clowns you saw in my frag tank. Then last Friday I received 19 fish from ORA that I acclimated directly into my tank since I had to fly out to SoCal for Reefapalooza. I couldn't expect my tank sitter to care for them in a small cube holding 14g of water with no active filtration.

    Then yesterday ...

  2. New fish & corals

So here are a few pictures from the stuff I brought home from CRASE, as promised. Some (or most) of the Chromis. The tank now has 36 in it.

The corals were given a 24 hour Interceptor bath, then a 10+ minute dip in ReVive. The corals were then moved to my frag tank.

Plenty of dry food for a while.

  3. CRASE V: quick recap of the day

I just got home less than an hour ago. We (DFWMAS members) had a great time at CRASE in Oklahoma City, seeing the members from the club up there and talking about next year's MACNA to them. I had the opportunity to meet up with many friends, like Joe Yaiullo (from the Altantis Aquarium in Long Island and runs the 20,000g reef), Laura Birenbaum (who works at Acan Lighting now and who was on RA's podcast and in one of our videos), Tony Vargas (who recently released his new book via all the social ...

At the end of the recent Frag Swap I attended in Tennessee, I asked the seller how much he wanted for all the Maxima clams in his tank. "Seriously?" he asked, and I said yes. After a little deliberating, we agreed on a price and he bagged each one up for me. They were in small clam cradles he'd made with frag plugs and two-part putty. If the clam was attached, he bagged it that way. If they were loose, the clam was bagged by itself and the cradles were ...

  5. Memphis Frag Swap

WTMRAC (West Tennessee Marine & Reef Aquarium Club) had their frag swap today. They rented a huge building at the Agri-Center, and it provided everyone with plenty of space to set up tanks. There were at least 15 individual tanks set up, some from hobbyists, some home-based businesses and a couple of store owners as well. There was plenty of livestock to pick from.

I spoke about Pests in the Aquarium, showing image after image of baddies we don't want as well as benign good guys ...
