For the past couple of months, my tank has really suffered from a bothersome cyano bloom and I've been trying to wait it out until it receeds, but not only has it stayed strong, I'm seeing some other issues in one of my colonies that concerns me. It is darn close to a dinoflagellate issue, with dead areas that have turned brown and nuisance algae has sprouted from it. With nitrates low and phosphates low, it's hard to figure out the cause. This is the female of my paired clownfish in the angled tank. They came from a Black Onyx Percula pair in Houston, but neither of mine have the familiar black markings unfortunately. She is about four years old now.
My reef is coming up on 6 years old this August, and some of the gear is definitely showing signs of wear. As I look at various items, I know they have to be replaced with new components which of course cost more money. Knowing that, I drag my feet because I like to eat too.
