Tank Entry

I noticed this picture of the Milka coral from a year ago. I honestly couldn't even remember when I got the frag. Roughly a week ago I was going through old pictures to ascertain when and didn't find any images until June 2015. However, I discovered two images from Jan 2, 2015 after all, so now I know:

As you know if you follow my blog, I share the good with the bad. I hate admitting the bad, because people often put my up to higher standards and I already set my own standards quite high, but here's the scoop:

The staghorn coral continues to STN slowly from the base up. And a couple of other spots of white appeared in about three more corals. I kept testing, trying to find the cause. When I tested nitrate this week, they were off the chart. Since that doesn't match what I measured ...

This coral is doing so well in my reef. I need to measure this colony.

I noticed three areas in reef today with white skeleton showing, which seemingly came out of the blue. Not sure why so I did a full set of tests to see what may have changed. Nothing major cropped up but these are my findings. Specifically the base of the Staghorn colony has been affected, as has a Montipora colony and a birdsnest colony.

I've been talking about a new frag tank system all year. It's November and I'm finally getting it done. The frag tank was made a month ago, but I needed a stand. I'd considered a steel stand to match the rest of my setup, but the cost just didn't justify itself.

Yesterday, a friend came over and offered to assist (translation: made me) with the stand build, so we ran up to Home Depot for the necessary items:

• 1x3 Red Oak boards
• A box of Wood screws
• Gorilla Wood glue
• Glossy
