When you look at your tank, do you look closely enough to see what's newly grown in?

My birdsnest colony that died left me some twigs. This particular piece broke off weeks ago and has sat on the rock in this exact spot untouched. I've checked on it from time to time because it isn't in an exposed easy-to-spot area. And what I saw were little white tips which are the beginnings of future branches. As I mentioned previously, I didn't want to treat my tank for cyano because it makes my skimmer overflow like crazy thereafter. I treated the tank on Saturday the 14th, and while the reef was simmering quietly I pulled out the protein skimmer and gave it a good cleaning.

Before I get into that, I have to share this picture. After treating the tank, all the algae that was on this dead coral was gone, and the skeleton was bone white. The cleaned up coral made it much easier to see ...

Funny how things can change between blog entries. I picked up four new corals at Frank's Tanks last night, got them acclimated, dipped and placed in the 400g.

The cyano I was grumbling about was a little bit worse in the frag tank and I decided what am I doing waiting for it to go away when I sell the stuff that kills it sitting on a shelf for my customers? I mean, I sell the stuff I use, so why am I not using it? RedCyano Rx has been dosed. That takes care of that.
