  1. Losing corals - ugh

Over the past few days, I've lost a few corals. One was a chalice that was being consumed with brown jelly disease. I took it out, shook it off in a bucket of tank water, then dipped it in ReVive for 15 minutes. Thereafter, it was put back in the tank, with the hope that the coral would recover. Within two days, the jelly returned and ate away the rest of it. Grrr.

A couple of other less-than healthy acros went up in smoke as well. Just RTN'd. I expected to see something in ...

  2. Day 300: Ten months old

I've been swamped lately and haven't had much time to spend online with y'all. However, I had to take a picture when my tank turned 300 days old though.

On December 6th, the reef reached 10 months old. Over all, it is doing quite well. I watch for warning signs of problems and try to anticipate potential surprises.

  3. Pictures pictures pictures

    As promised...

This coral is one of the SPS from my last reef. A single tiny twiglet turned into this guy.

  4. Up to my elbows in it...

Today as soon as my migraine subsided, I decided to get my arms wet and do some work in the reef. It was cold and rainy outside, so why not play in the 80 degree water.

I removed some stuff that needed to be gone, like empty shells, some dead skeletons, etc and tried cleaning up some corals. I added some frags into the reef that have been in the frag tank for the past month or longer, and puttied / glued down frags that were broken recently by my active fish. A few items ...

  5. 400g update

Over the past couple of days, I got some things done.
    • Blowhole pump replaced with another one for an upcoming product review.
    • Water tests completed, and the numbers look good.
    • The 265g poly tank was cleaned out again, and refilled
with RO/DI water to mix up new saltwater.
    • A few majanos and aiptasias were zapped.

Still having fish losses. I saw another dead Sherbert Anthias blowing around in the tank, which means I only have one left of the three. A few dots appeared on ...
