I never saw it bother anything in my tank. It seemed to nip at rockwork more than anything else.

looking good. Hey was just wondering if the mimic you had picked at any thing in the tank before its passing. I really love files and would love to add one to my 180

The confusion lies with the fact that the nipple came off of the Eheim section, and thus wasn't in the first set of pictures. I put it back in place when I installed the final version.

Mark, there is an easy fail safe way to avoid this overspilling if you can't get your sock inside of the sump. I just cut a small maybe 1 inch by 1 inch hole on it towards the top and then when it starts spilling out of the little hole, I know it is dirty and time to replace with a clean one =)

It just looked like you drilled a hole and put tubing there. After looking up Euro-Reef venturi, I see I'm wrong on that. I don't see why you cant go out and buy something like this at your lfs. I'm getting a lot more waste out of my tank now that I did this.

What makes you think I'm not using the venturi? Look in the final pictures and you can see the vinyl tubing affixed to the nipple.

Nice solution, btw. I'm glad that is working out for you.

I know I'm new to reefaddicts but I want to share a alternative way to do this. I see your not using the venturi in this modification. If you don't have a venturi, this will reduce the amount of bubbles by a lot. Start a over and put the venturi back on. Then get a coupling and put a bushing on the end of the coupling. Cut two holes in the coupling and then put it together. You can go to http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=49239 to check it out

There are two kinds, light-loving (photosynthetic) and then the opposite (non-photosynthetic) that require food in the water often. The ones I'm keeping seem to be doing quite well, feeding off the particulates moving through the water column and basking in the 10,000K lighting from above. Some of the prettier kinds don't need light and have to have more food. It's hard to maintain good water quality with those types, so I don't keep them.

Nice pics Marc. Question, on a scale 1-10, ten being very difficult, what would you rate your experience with keeping gorgonians? I am curious about them.

I love that bird of paradise coral. It's definitely making my list of corals to have one day. I bet it would look stunning under my blue LEDs too. :-)

Phil, that one is probably "Bird of Paradise." It's amazing from above, and I will have to get a better picture of it with more of it in focus. The color is outstanding.

Marc I'm never sure which is more impressive, your tank or your photography?

Those are great shots. Did you turn off the flow to get the surface of the water still or did you have something that lets you partially submerge your lens?
