  1. Mad science strikes again! I made a prototype zapper.

After about a week of researching and thinking and reading some more I decided to try building a "zapper". I don't have any pest anemones but I've been looking for away to remove stray mushrooms without pulling the rock and chiseling them off. After all my reading and thinking I went out and got some supplies. I dug out some non-copper speaker wire and some used oxygen tubing out of my grandpa's garage. I purchased a 12V 600mA power supply, an on\off switch, marine epoxy, a carpenters ...

  2. My inner mad scientist is begging to be let out.

Having recently found my self suddenly and unexpectedly unemployed, I have too much time on my hands. While it's been great for my clean up efforts, it also allows me way too much time to invent, reinvent and experiment. I love to experiment and DIY different little ideas. I've had one crazy idea for a while now and have been running a prototype in a 20 gal attached to my main system. I call it a refugium for lack of a better word. It's unlit with about 3 inches of sand and gravel mix with a few ...

  3. Star Wars and the Battle of Detritus

In my few years with my tank I have had a few pests and problems. I've had my share of cyano warfare and diatoms. Of them all there are two that have caused me the most grief. Two little critters that make me crazy. Two little things I've have battled for too long. So long that I nearly gave up entirely. The first is the worst! We've battled long and brutally and I've done nothing but lose ground. They are my #1 enemy, Vermitid Snails. The other is much more manageable and mostly just annoying. ...

  4. Let's start over... maybe.

Hello Addicts Gozer here to introduce my self and what I'm doing here. I've been in the reef hobby for about 4 years... I think. I have a 75 gallon tank with about 100 in the system. At one point it was quite a nice tank for a novice. I say at one point because sadly I lost my addiction fervor a year or so ago. The tank is still goin' but it hasn't seen the TLC it deserves and is now basically a red mushroom garden with a couple of this and that to go with. I have a pest starfish problem and plenty ...
