Ok got some pics of my auto top off. Full pics and description here: http://nacl-h2o.ventshop.net/node/22
I meant thread tape.......but it appears that you thought of that as well.
They come threaded dcombs, thats the beauty of them. little plumbers tape and bingo air tight,
For insurance sake, you may want to pipe thread the seals on the jug at the main spout and at the air vent. I have a few of those jugs from Wally World, and I've had issues with them being air/water tight at the seals. It'd be a bad deal if there was a way for air to get into the jug. Very cool and simple idea though.
yeah thats another way to do it Nightshade, This was a quick way for me being I went into surgery shortly after setup and could not lift anything heavier then a milk jug. Just drop my RO into it and refill it bang your done.
My top off is a little different I actually did get a float valve and ran it to a 5 gallon water jug then started a siphon. After that line was running I set a second jug beside the first and began a siphon from the second to the first. Both jugs fall at the same rate even though the siphon to the tank only involves the one jug. To top them up I take a third jug and fill it with ro water and siphon into one of the other jugs and they both equal out after about a minute. I repeat untill both jugs are full and am good for about a week. As long as I don't loose the siphon at any point during the fill or when the jugs get real low everything works fine. Will take a few pics when I get a chance.
yep they work too, but have to be plastic. I prefer food grade plastics because of no leaching.
ty Ray. Its been a life saver on my back thats for sure.
very simple top off never even thought of that.
Tennis ball canisters.
that looks just like the 55 gallon I set up as a freshwater for my ladies green spotted puffers.
Jessy I scoped some speghetti container at walmart that would be ideal. Also Peanut butter jars work really good too.
Hmm brainstorming about the skinniest possible container I can find...if pringle cans were just water proof
Check on Ebay, there is plenty of acrylic sellers that sell seconds and shorts there, Shipping is pretty cheap too.
Its quiet all, the water slides down the sides, so no fountain sound.
Hell yeah, should blow that satan skimmer out of the water. Wish I knew enough to fabricate my own skimmer, just yesterday I cut the bottom off of a beer bottle and made an air stone skimmer. It was terrible.
Is there any reason it couldnt be completely submerged? That would get rid of all noise.
How loud is it? I mean the water trickling out. Does it sound like a fountain?
Yepper Marc on the Vortech, As for the Bubble tower yes it works well and make the bubbles rise immediately so the skimmer can not suck them inand they seem to burst right at the bubble barrier. The stand was tight for that 55 sump but it fits, I would have rather used a 45 long, but the Wife grabbed it for FW tank. Iam building 2 shelf units surround the tank. One is to hold my equipment, the other to hold my collection of wizards and dragons, so I will have room in the cabinet to make a shelf. The check valve was removed when I realized it was not needed for this tank , the sump will hold all the water in case of power off.
I forgot add that Marc, thanks yeah attach a 3/4 feamle adapter slip/thread to underside of the hose barb, cut a short piece of PVC measuring to just above the bottom of the container, and attach it to the female adapter slip end, this will alow flow to go through the container. Thanks again Marc for reminding me.
