If you rotated your media bin 90 degrees so it spans the sump instead of hugging the wall, you'd have room to move those baffles back. Better yet, remove them as they are completely unnecessary. You'd have 30" of linear travel time from the previous set. Have your media bin dump its water on the baffle side (away from the direction the water is flowing.

You can put heaters in that zone.

How much larger would you recommend? Twice the size? I can move the internal baffles no problem, but the overall length is pretty firm.

That return section (two holes in sump at one end) looks much too small. I'd recommend growing that out into a longer section.

Its actually a media tray/holder for a media basket. Water will be pumped up from the bottom and it will overflow into the larger comparatment, pass through the bubble trap and then return to the display.

No, none of the lowermost panes in the bubble traps will seal off the sump.

What's the function of the "sling" looking piece in the sump?

I'm also assuming that when it's actually built the middle piece in the bubble trap won't go all the way to the bottom...

We actually levelled it when the stand arrived to us in the spring. The floor still needs to be painted, but its level where the stand will be/is.

Very cool stand. Is the floor level?I know most of the older houses in town have crazy slopes built into the basement floor.Yours looks like it was levelled at some point previously(different colored concrete?)

It supposedly holds 125g, but I'm definitely going to test it out and find out for sure. Its install began yesterday evening, and will probably be finished this weekend.

How much can that sucker hold?

I think I'm leaning towards having a 4ft overflow. We actually settled on a builder today and are just working out the final small details; approximate time frames, how payment will work, etc. I'm going to ask about widening the overflow, and potentially having slots made so I can be like Wilson (I think thats who it was) and have a couple of different combs/teeth sizes made.

I admit to bribing my other half to do errands and the nasty home repair jobs with tools, so I figure making teeth for the tank should be one of his first projects.

You definitely want a much longer overflow to keep the surface clean. 4' is a minimum. The tank is 10' long. Mine is 7' long and my overflow is 36" long at the far end, but my returns will push the surface toward the overflow.

I'm bad at getting my thoughts together in one post this morning, sorry.

This tank will be around the 450g mark, the system will be in and around the 1000g area. I can't accomodate a coast to coast overflow due to the configuration of the tank room, and the fact that I'm short (5'3") and can't make it over an overflow + eurobracing to work on the inside of the tank. I also want to be able to look in the tank from the back for the peace of mind.
