Wow, 2 at one time! Very nice setups. Your rock work looks awesome! How did you do your rock work.. Putty, glue, etc? The 250w MH really lights up ya tank. I've been thinking about going MH, but didn't really know what to go with. I bet that would work on my 75g. ;-)

That depends on the layout of the 70g, and the spread of the reflector you purchase.

Thanks Melev, I had no idea acrylic and starboard had either attributes! good to know! One more thing, would you hang the light perpendicular like i mentioned or just hang it parallel with two bent rods. I'm not sure which way will give more light to the sides of the tank as I've never owned a pendant halide (maybe i should just find Jesse's article).

I'm going to have to put Spectrapure on the cussword list, it seems.

1) Black for base of tank. It better be 1/2" or thicker. Acrylic will warp. Starboard will a little as well, but even worse - it floats. Until your rock is in place, you need to weigh it down.
2) Depending on the weight of the light pendant, the bent pipe is fine. Jessy did a good write up on how.
3) Waterproofing the sump zone may help, but remember anything in the liner that gets hit with water will drown and burn up. This is a helpful gutter to pool the water, not a place to store stuff that should stay dry but MIGHT get wet. It WILL get wet if things go wrong. Their sump is matched to their tank, so I doubt it would overflow.
4) It'll work, and it doesn't have to look bad.
5) Good idea. The 4-plug DJ's are thicker & bulkier.

Wow! Tons of replies! I appreciate everyones feedback, you guys have nudged me towards the bigger tank. The eco-rox are pretty cool and cheap as well, which brings me to my next topic that i might touch on in weeks to come (I'm full of ideas).

I just feel I have the opportunity and resources to break the mold and create something truly different (along the lines of bonsai reef, dropoff reef, etc. as a vehicle for my concept). There is still so much to be done in the hobby as a whole - not just aesthetics but methods as well.

what about a larger custom glass tank with dividers in them. you could have the diversity you would like (saves on lights plumbing and such) but if you wanted to go a different direction you could cut out the dividers.

I would seriously consider two aspects. One is getting all captive breed fish and anemones and raising juvenille fish together.

The other aspect is layout and contrast. I would do a shallow layout with duplication and a race way for water flow and fish swimming. The wow effect in reef tanks is not done by have 50 3" frags but by having obviously healthy livestock grown out in a display that takes advantage of white space and proportioning.

I've given away 50+ BTA anemones and they are simple with consistent husbandry. I would suggest smaller type rocks such as eco-rox from BRS supply that are very easy to cure and can be taken out and replace as removing a foothold is a bad idea.

I like prop 1 myself.

Proposition 1 sounds gorgeous, and Mona's tank is one I've loved seeing over the past few years.

Proposition 2 would allow you to have different species of corals as well, if you decided you wanted to have two different biotopes to house around those clown pairs with their hosted anemones.

Either would be nice.
