Yep Marc is right, Maroon's are notorius for beating the hell out of Anemones, Shelter it for a bit.

Maroon clownfish are really hard on amenones, and your new anemone may not be able to take it. I've seen them kill a rose BTA in the past, so you probably should consider screening it off for now to keep the clowns at bay and feed it to get it bigger first.

Congrats on joining a local club!

Yeah BTA's have a real knack of going where you dont want them, I found feeding them real well in the place you want them will keep them local in fear they may not get a next meal. I would have a crap load of silversides around to see it would work.

Yes Clstreak, I agree. It was a long shot for blue supplementation, only for looks not growth.

For lighting with LEDs exclusively, I don't think the extremely narrow spectrum range of each colored LED can really be melded enough to match the broad spectrum of MH or T5's. The reason I say this is that Cree and other manufacturers don't make the LEDs tailored for our hobby's needs. We are basically combining colors and hoping for the best, some people have even gone as far as adding cyan and red LEDs to their fixtures to see if those colors have what cool white and blue LEDs are missing. No thanks.

I would apologize for the rant, but it's my post!

I know this is hearsay.. but we prize our aquariums to the upmost.. Im not going to say that china or anywhere else for that matter has inferior products but they dont have laws over there that govern patents and they can reverse engineer and resell things that may not be up to the same quality that is found at that $1.50 more counterpart. Now that being said I am all for saving money.. But it comes down to this are you willing to risk 3.10 3wt led or 1 3 wt led from a no name manufactuar..

With leds being fairly new i will contiue to read on RC fourms and I will watch and read some more and form my own opinon and I want to see someones reef on day 1 then 5 years from now before i make the big jump.. Thats how new i belive this technology is..

Yeah, the BTAs are my only worry right now. I think they'll leave the SPS alone right in front of the powerhead, and if they wander to a vacant spot I wont mind. I guess we'll wait and see! Maybe I can talk to Mobert on RC and ask how I can control them with strategic powerhead placement.
  8. melev's Avatar
The only problem is that BTAs go whenever they like. Sure they'd look great there but that doesn't mean they'll obey you.

The ??? spot could be some pretty LPS.

I ordered some blue flexible LED strips from china and wired them to an american 12v power supply.

I got the tri-chip SMD5050's. If the Ecoxotics use a similar LED, I would steer clear. These things suck.

It ended up being 20$ for 2 foot, I already had the power supply.

Did I miss this DIY blog some where? I'm getting some real stunner strips for my tank. Why did you opt to go DIY?

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually put it to use but not for the chromis...

I decided the chromis can stay for now, I might add a school later to add movement. I instead made a fish trap and caught the Mystery wrasse in my red sea max, and put him in the Elos! He is doing fine, drip acclimated for about an hour and we have no labored breathing. Thanks!

Chromis tend to rest quietly in a corner at night. You might be able to get him with a red flashlight in the dark.

    +1 on the fish trap

In closing, does anyone have tips on getting this fracking chromis out of my Elos?!
Fish trap... You can buy one, or search utube and do a DIY and make yourself one...

The screen looks great, it doesn't detract at all from the overall look or feel of the tank.

Reef saver rock from BRS, same stuff as Marco rock basically.

Dont forget the roller tool, it helps a lot.

    Thanks midnight!

I used 1/4" clear mesh from Bulk Reef Supply, The framing and spline are from Lowes (they have a "screen" aisle for this DIY).

I Really the whole setup you got going on there.
