sps is a lil slower from when I had a 250w hqi, but the color is so much better some pieces colored up and look 100% better. par levels are 325-350 4 inches from surface, 100-150 on sand. good ballast are the key, I've bought the cheap sps bulbs and blew them in 4 days. good bulbs are another factor. in pic 2 right near clown that a tyree purple soli, far left is a green purple rim cap, and big red cap top left center

thanks! as for the purple coral I think your talking about my caps it used to be glued a long time ago on my old tank. that worked because I glued it when it was size of nickel, also it's a red cap. iPhone makes everything look so blue.

WOW, looks beautiful!! Purple Monti is gorgeous too. Looks like you have a lot of growth. How would you say your SPS growth rate is under the 6 T5's? And do you believe the ATI bulbs is a big factor in the growth?

Too bad ORA or a similiar group hasn't offered them the opportunity to sell sustainably grown coral back here to us in the States or to those in Europe who would gladly pay an arm and a leg for it. According to ORA some islands in the South Pacific make most of their money from coral farming in the waters just off their beaches. It would be really cool if more people bought that kind of stuff. Seriously, we can get Hippo Tangs, every imaginable clownfish, seahorses, Mandarin Gobies, even clams! Then there are the acropora species, the montipora, the sephoria, the softies, hammers, etc. We can get all that aquacultured. It's neat when people add new species to that list and it's sad that we still use so much from the ocean when we don't really have to anymore. But then, one island nation or two supplying as many shells as they do probably isn't hurting anything. As has been said before, they need to eat. Until somebody in their village or from here shows them a better way or a more profitable industry, their lifestyle won't change nor should it.

Yeah, I have to agree. It's not the same. On the other hand, the mussels are at least used for food, so I can understand the necessity there. Why though must they kill the corals? It's heartbreaking to see this happening.

they are killing living creatures to use the bones for decoration...not exactly the same.

this is infuriating! but our natural resourses will always be exploited!
we may be dieing to get our hands on some of that coral alive, but im sure there dieing to have the clean freshwater we simply let run down the drain, its the same thing...more or less

It is saddening to see that type of stuff being pulled from the ocean when we are scrambling to get 1" frags from others at an affordable price. For that stuff to be baked, crushed, or simply used as decor --- sigh.

I'll take some pics of coral tomorrow and go from that base line. I'll also start charting my numbers

How dare they try to keep out of poverty!!!!!!! ;-)

It's simply true that islands are kept alive by the reef. It is their version of a manufacturing plant. If they are harvesting from it too quickly, they won't be able to do it for long. Sadly, if they harvest too quickly they'll kill an entire reef. :-(
