You are right. But the sump will have about 7 feet of head room. I should have clarified that the sump will be in the basement. I'm going that large for future considerations
Why are you making the sump so tall? I'd suggest 16" tall, especially with a 30" tall stand. You need some room to work down there.
The black acrylic panel in my 400g has a 3/4" gap on both ends, which is filled with black silicone. I scrape it clean with a credit card (hotel key card) and it has never scratched. The silicone is there to avoid any issue by the acrylic absorbing water (3% supposedly), and the tank has been going strong for three years next month. Glad to hear you are getting another tank. I know it made you really happy all these years.
The dead tank sits on the stand awaiting removal. My wife talked me out of pulling the plug on the hobby but it's really heart breaking to lose almost everything that I've tried to grow and keep all my wet pets healthy and happy. I've got most of the fish and some rock that made it in a 65 gal tank in my basement fish room. I tried to save any coral that was still wet when I discovered the disaster but they are all fading away. Marc, I don't know how you recovered from your disaster.
o no that sucks. that's y I keep my tank in the basement near the drain just in case. This way it minimizes the damage to the house. Don't let it make you Quit the hobby.

That is brutal and sorry to hear. I'm assuming glass? I know acrylic can fail as well, but I won't go near glass for that very reason. I'm terrified of that kind of thing happening.

Nice!!! Glad it works as planned. I'm going to drill my Nyos collection cup on the frag system to create a similar method. I already have one on the big reef, but the little tank needs it too.
The carnage begins tomorrow. I'm losing a lot of space rapidly and acros are being slowly killed so that's it. Hammer time!
Had my first experience with the super locker on Thursday. Worked like a charm. Shut my skimmer down while I was at work. Once I got' home I emptied the 5 gal pail, cleaned the skimmer cup and reset the unit. Couldn't be more pleased and I would highly recommend this for anyone who is running an external skimmer and/or a large tank.
Sure does. It's a great way to keep the sump area tidy too.

if you had a way to get them out of the water, a dremel would be a way to cut and trim them. I'm in the same boat, and it's been tough for me to swallow that pill and begin the carnage.
Tried a smaller pic...you can see my hand in a black latex glove under it to give you a sense of the size it was.
