Anyone have any tricks to trimming/pruning monti caps that won't look like the bow of a ship smashed through my reef? I've got a lot of purple rim green cap that is out of control and either shading or engulfing some acros that I'd rather not lose. I've already pretty much lost what I would describe as an encrusting/branching rainbow monti.
I found a lux meter app for my phone and was very curious to see the lux reading under my Atlantik lights at 100% intensity. At the water surface(so scared I was going to drop the phone in the tank!) I measured 57000 and change under the left and right v1 units and 46000 and change under the center v2.1b unit. Interestingly at least for me that coincides with slower coral growth in the center of the tank. Coral color appears equal to my eyes. Hmm what does the sunlight outside measure? Right now, ...
So I came home after work yesterday to find my perfectly fine bird nest in rtn mode. It's the size of a soccer ball. Today it looks like the progression has slowed or stopped but its probably 50% affected. My fear is that the other corals will get some kind of death signal and follow suit. I'm prepared to break it apart and frag it but that's going to be a lot of frags. So here's a dumb question. Could I glue the frags together to make a new colony of sorts? And should I be looking for some kind ...
I had 2 torches and a hammer infested with them so I pulled all 3 and gave them a bath with Coral rx. Really checked them over thoroughly before returning them to the display or so I thought. Now they are everywhere. I bought Flatworm Exit but I thought I best check with my fellow Reef Addicts to see if there's a safer solution before I use it. I'm prepared to get a Melanurus Wrasse but that'll only take care of the display. Any thoughts?
Now that I have the Reeflink I'm really thinking about the Vectra pumps from EcoTech. I am using a pair of BlueLine pumps ,one as my return that also feeds a manifold for reactors and the fuge. The other I have throttled back as my skimmer feed. While the noise reduction would be nice it's not the biggest draw for me as my sump room is in the basement. What does interest me is the control ability and monitoring. I wonder if the L1 would be able to deliver the same or more than a BlueLine 70HD at ...
